Hi,

On your weekly call, your dad laughs: “I slipped in the bathroom. It’s nothing.” Wet Bangkok bathroom tiles can get slippery. He sounds fine, so you let it go.

The US CDC says more than 1 in 4 adults 65 and older fall each year, and less than half tell their doctor. Falling once doubles the chance of falling again.

The CDC also says many who fall, even unhurt, become afraid. They skip walks and sit more. Moving less makes them weaker, so another fall is more likely. Far away, you only hear “I’m fine.”

Our Care After a Fall service sends a bilingual caregiver to his home, supervised by our Nurse Coordinator:

  • Safe-paced walks and close help from bed to chair while he finds his footing.
  • Spotting loose mats, cords and high thresholds, swapping loose slippers for better shoes, and steady bathroom help after dark.
  • Keeping up exercises his physio or doctor set.
  • Daily notes and a watch for late warning signs, like new confusion or a headache that won't settle. Our Nurse Coordinator decides next steps, including calling the doctor.
  • A few hours a day, nights if needed, then less as he improves.

We want him moving with support as confidence returns, not shrinking into the chair. And someone there can tell you more than “I’m fine.”
